If your kid’s ride on car is not responding to your remote control, don’t panic! Most issues can be resolved fairly quickly, and in this article, we’ll take you through the different ways you can fix your remote control and get everything back to normal.
Why is my kids’ electric ride on car remote not working?
If your kids’ ride on car is not responding to the remote control, there are several things to consider before going into hands-on troubleshooting:
- Has the car worked before, or is this the first time trying it out?
- Are the remote control and car fully-charged?
- Are the lights on the car working correctly?
- Are the motor wires attached properly? (Sometimes motor wires simply slip out.)
- Does the toy car make any strange noises or clicking sounds?
If you can answer none of these questions with a definite “yes”, it is time to go into the nitty-gritty working of the devices. Here’s how:
1. Check your batteries
The first thing you should do before making any major changes is checking to see if your remote control has any batteries missing. This might seem ridiculous, but you’d be surprised how often children remove the remote control’s batteries and how easily they get lost.
Wrong kind of battery
It’s also possible that you may have the wrong kind of batteries. Usually, most remotes run on AA or AAA batteries but it is possible that your remote requires something different.
Batteries inserted the wrong way around
If you have already checked for the batteries and they are all still in the remote control, ensure they are positioned correctly inside the battery compartment and not the wrong way around.
To assess if the batteries are correctly inserted, check the instructions on the inside of the battery compartment.
Batteries are too old
Batteries also tend to have a life span, and if you have checked whether all the batteries are in the remote control and inserted correctly, another simple reason could be that you are dealing with an old battery.
Dead batteries can come from either running flat or being too old. If the batteries are simply flat, either exchange them for new ones or if they are rechargeable batteries, pop them into the battery charger until they are full again and insert them back into the remote control.
Sometimes, when batteries have been inside a remote control for too long, they can also start to corrode and leak acid into the battery compartment. In both cases, make sure you carefully remove the batteries. If they have leaked, clean out the battery compartment to see whether the acid has already damaged the circuit board, which would become a different issue.
Sometimes the circuit board is easy to clean if only a small amount of acid has leaked, but if it has been damaged beyond repair, you might have to buy a new remote control.
2. Check the connection between the remote control and the car
If you have sorted out any battery-related issues and your car is still not responding to the remote control, there could be a connection issue.
Does Bluetooth work?
Almost every modern toy car runs with a Bluetooth connection to the remote control. Sometimes, the connection gets interrupted by other objects or electronic devices that are interfering with both the car and the remote control’s Bluetooth – so it’s worth checking to see whether the Bluetooth of your toy car has a good connection.
Check the antenna
Older versions of a ride on car might still have an antenna. If this is the case for you, ensure the antenna is in the correct position on the car, and is not broken, bent or dragging on the floor, as this could interfere with the connection.
3. Broken transmitter
If either the remote control or the toy car itself has fallen or hit something relatively hard, there’s a chance that the transmitter inside the remote control or the car receiver is broken.
For steering, powering the wheels or stopping your ride on car, the remote control needs to communicate with the toy car via the transmitter while the receiver inside the car receives the information on what to do. If either one of these systems is damaged, your toy can stop working.
4. Maximum weight limit reached
If there’s extra weight added to the ride on car, this could also interfere with the connection. Make sure you read the instructions and understand how much pressure your ride on car can manage. For example, two children might be trying to ride one car at the same time. This extra weight might slow the performance of the ride on car down.
FAQs
I have tried all of the above, but my kids’ electric ride on car remote is still not working properly.
If you have tried all these suggestions and still can’t identify the problem, the issue might be due to a manufacturing error. If this is the case, you sadly won’t be able to fix it yourself, so you may have to ask for external help.
In this case, we can only recommend contacting the manufacturer or retailer, i.e. our friendly service staff at EROC, who will gladly assist you with any query you might have. We also have a wide variety of spare remotes or spare parts for your electric ride on car in our shop!
How do I pair my electric ride on car with its remote control?
Despite coming from different manufacturers, most ride on cars will pair with their remote control in a similar way as described below:
- Switch the vehicle off.
- Press and hold the “Pair” button and wait for the light on the remote to start blinking fast.
- Let go of the “Pair” button as soon as the lights blink.
- Switch the vehicle back on.
- The remote control light should stay steady and not blink.
Your devices should be paired now.
Why won’t my power wheels move?
This could be due to several reasons. Here are the most common ones:
- Your power wheels aren’t charged sufficiently.
- Batteries could be loose, flat, too old or inserted wrong.
- A wire could be loose.
